Some people may incorrectly assume that the only way to get arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence is to be pulled over by police while actually driving. However, in the past several weeks, at least two Pennsylvania fathers have been arrested and put in jail after attempting to pick up their sons who were arrested and being held on suspicion of drunk driving.

In the most recent case, a Chads Ford father has arrived at the Media, Pennsylvania, state police barracks around 10:45 p.m. to pick up his son who had been arrested for DUI. However, upon arrival police claimed to be able to smell alcohol on the father's breath, and he too was arrested for DUI.

A few weeks earlier, a similar scenario had also played out in Bellwood, Pennsylvania, when another father went to pick up his son who had been arrested for drunk driving. In that case, the father supposedly had a blood alcohol concentration of one and a half times the legal limit.

Both of these cases prove that a person can be charged with DUI, even though there was no actual traffic stop with a police officer. However, even in these types of cases, it's important to remember that the prosecution must still prove that the person in question actually did drive, and that he or she did not get a ride with a sober driver.

In the end, just remember that regardless of the circumstances leading up to a DUI arrest, people still have rights, and an attorney can provide advice on whether it's best to plead guilty, or attempt to defend against the charge.
